TryHackMe - Certificates and Review

My review of TryHackMe

I initially wanted to study cybersecurity, and one of the paths I took was TryHackMe. Each path contains multiple chapters, each covering a different subject. The rooms contain the study material, while some also include virtual machines.

To get the most out of TryHackMe, I bought the premium subscription.

I have completed five paths:

• Pre Security
• Cyber Security 101
• Web Fundamentals
• Web Application Red Teaming
• Red Teaming

For my experience with TryHackMe, the theory in many of the rooms provides a good foundation for certain topics, but if I wanted to study something in more depth, I had to do my own research, which is expected. For example, while learning about NTFS, I found an Autopsy room, but bit-level manual instructions were not provided.

The virtual machines were mostly unpleasant, especially the Windows machines, which require reasonably powerful hardware to run. They were painfully slow and buggy, to the point where waiting for them or restarting them became a waste of time. Some even crashed or had to be reconnected.

Overall, TryHackMe was useful for building a theoretical foundation and getting familiar with a wide range of topics, but for deeper understanding and practical experience, I often had to supplement it with my own research and hands-on work.
